SILENT HUNTER III
SUBMARINE SIMULATOR
Silent Hunter II
Silent Hunter II, released in 2001, shifted submarine game play from the Pacific to the Battle of the Atlantic where the player assumes the role of a German submarine commander. Silent Hunter II utilized many of the same game play principals as its predecessor whereas the player operated the submarine by visiting various stations on-board. As with the original Silent Hunter, the submarine crew was never seen but German voices responded to the player's commands.
The player began each mission from a headquarters screen where mission orders would be issued. From here, the player could also view details of past missions as well as view awarded medals and badges.
Missions could either be part of an ongoing campaign or played as single stand-alone missions. In either case, specific mission goals would be provided for which a player would be required to complete in order to achieve victory. In the case of campaign missions, the campaign would not advance to the next mission until the previous mission had been successfully accomplished.

Most stations on-board the submarine were similar to the predecessor game Silent Hunter. The player could navigate the submarine from a chart screen as well as order attacks from either a submerged periscope view or while attacking on the surface. Fire control and targeting was slightly more advanced than Silent Hunter, although game controls could be set to ease the difficulty level of each mission.
The game also included an external view where the player could follow launched torpedoes or zoom in on other vessels. Overall, the game Silent Hunter II was highly successfully leading to another sequel four years later.
